McBride, Long, Mathews
honored by league coaches

Bedford North Lawrence’s Tanner McBride, Austin Long and Cole Mathews were named to the Hoosier Hills Conference’s First Team by the league coaches.
McBride, a junior third baseman, hit .348 (and got hit by pitches 12 times) and also went 3-3 on the mound with a 2.44 ERA. Long, a junior who is verbally committed to Indiana University, hit .395 with a team-high 27 RBIs and also went 3-3 with a 3.50 ERA as a pitcher. Mathews, a junior second baseman, batted .373 and was 3-1 with a 2.86 ERA on the mound.
Jeffersonville, the league tournament champion, had three selections with Drew Campbell, Ian Ellis and Dawson Willis. New Albany, which won the Class 4-A sectional title, also had three with pitcher Austin Dickey, A.J. Nixon and Chase Rudy.
The rest of the First Team included Columbus East’s Takahiro Yamada, Jon Crawford and Drew Hasson; Floyd Central’s Phillip Archer and Evan Jewell; and Seymour’s Alan Perry.
BNL’s Drew Hensley was named Honorable Mention. Hensley, a junior shortstop, hit .322 with a team-high 25 runs scored. On the mound, he went 1-3 with 3 saves. BNL finished the season 17-11.
The other HM choices included East’s Caleb Burton, FC’s John Bradshaw, Jeffersonville’s Joe Burke, Jennings County’s Tyler Vogel, Madison’s A.J. Karst, New Albany’s Timmie Redford, and Seymour’s Satoshi Hirose.
