Cougars advance to final
with 4-0 conquest of BNL
BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence struggled to generate offense as Bloomington North rolled to a 4-0 victory in the Class 2-A sectional semifinal at Bloomington South on Wednesday night.
The Cougars (8-8-2) advanced to face No.6 Bloomington South (17-1) in the final on Saturday at 6 p.m. The Panthers pounded Owen Valley 10-0 in the first semifinal.
North jumped on top early as Deniz Tezer ripped a shot past BNL goalie Nate Bartlett at the 33:37 mark of the first half, and the Stars could not answer.
“We had some opportunities, we just weren’t able to finish on them,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “It’s tough when we don’t score. That makes it hard, especially when we get down early. It felt like we were fighting an uphill battle the whole way.”
North extended its lead to 2-0 at intermission as Nathan Spriggs scored at 13:53. The Cougars added on in the second half as Brandon Hunt sliced through two defenders for a goal with 22:31 left, and Thomas Walls beat Bartlett to a ball for a shot into an empty net at 13:44.
BNL finished 8-7-1.
“I thought we had a good year,” Jackson said. “There were some games that we were there, that we should have competed a little better and won, but there was improvement and a winning season. We still have a long way to go as far as our skill and moving the ball, but I feel like we improved.”
South, the defending champion, cruised as Matt Goedde and Jacob Leslie scored two goals apiece.
