Stars finish fourth as team
while sending 4 individuals
as two relays to IHSAA regional
Bedford North Lawrence smashed a meet record in the 400 relay during the IHSAA sectional at BNL on Thursday night.
The Stars finished fourth in the 12-team field with 76 points. Seymour won the team title with 130, followed by Jennings County (91) and Mitchell (76).
BNL’s fantastic foursome of Isaac Kuehn, Alex Adams, Garrett Flinn and Micah Wagner won the 400 in 43.56, breaking the mark of 44.03 set by the Stars in 2013. That same quartet won the 1600 relay in 3:26.12.
The top three in each event qualified for the regional at Bloomington North on May 26.
Wagner won a third blue ribbon as he crossed the line first in the 100 meter dash in 11.41. Adams was second in the 400 (52.22) and Justin Sims was the runner-up in the 110 high hurdles (15.56, with Jennings County’s Aaron Smiley clipping him at the wire in 15.55).
BNL’s Logan Cooper was third in the 300 hurdles (42.69).
Orleans’ Jaxton Smith was the meet’s only double winner as he claimed the long jump (20-2 1/4) and the 300 hurdles (40.85). Mitchell’s Matthew Jenkins set a sectional record while clearing 6-6 1/2 in the high jump.
