BNL runners win 400
and 1600 relays while
advancing to state finals
BLOOMINGTON – Together, Bedford North Lawrence’s speed merchants were invincible.
The fourcome of Isaac Kuehn, Alex Adams, Garrett Flinn and Micah Wagner combined to win two relay races during the IHSAA regional at Bloomington North on Thursday night. They qualified for the state finals at Indiana University on June 4.
The top three in each event advanced to the state championships, but the Stars didn’t need that cushion.
In the 400 relay, top-seeded BNL roared to the title in 43.72 seconds, clipping West Vigo by .05. The Stars came back to win the 1600 relay – the final event of the meet – in 3:25.14, edging Bloomington South (3:25.51) and Mitchell (3:25.79) in a duel to the line.
BNL finished sixth in the team standings with 24 points while Bloomington South claimed that honor with 115.
Among the individuals, Wagner finished 6th in the 100 meter dash (11.4) and Logan Cooper was 8th in the 300 hurdles (42.58). Adams settled for 16th in the 400 (57.17) and Justin Sims was disqualified in the finals of the 110 high hurdles.
Seymour’s Seth Ragon was second in the high jump (6-5) while Madison’s Adida Ikongshul (20-4 ¾) and Gabe Stoll (20-4) were second and third in the long jump.
