ELLETTSVILLE – Seth Sherfick recorded a hat trick as Bedford North Lawrence conquered Edgewood 4-1 on Monday night.

Sherfick got the Stars on the board on an assist from Zach Bradshaw in the 35th minute of the first half, and that duo connected again with Sherfick’s second goal four minutes into the second half.

His third goal came in the 60th minute. After the Mustangs countered only two minutes later, Bradshaw completed the scoring (with an assist to Hunter Cline). BNL owned a 21-12 advantage in shots.

NORTH VERNON – Bedford North Lawrence scored two late goals in the first half and got a weather assist to conquer Jennings County 2-1 on Thursday night.

BNL left with the win when the game was called with 36:12 remaining because of lightning.

The first 10 minutes were played in a downpour, and the Panthers took a 1-0 lead with an early goal. But the Stars (3-3-1, 1-2 in the Hoosier Hills Conference) answered with goals by Zach Bradshaw and Logan Andrews as BNL ended a two-game skid.

Columbus East slips away

with 1-0 victory over Stars

Bedford North Lawrence certainly had moments, chances, opportunities. Soccer is a game of ultimate patience, and the Stars played that way until impatience caused urgency late in the second half.

The surges, the final flurry of shots, came too late. Columbus East had already scored once, and that was all it took as the Olympians escaped with a tidy 1-0 victory on Tuesday night.

BNL saved its best shots for last. In the final 12 minutes, the Stars rifled four excellent, high-voltage, laser-beam shots at East freshman goalie Zach Roberts, who either turned them aside or got an assist from the crossbar. Sometimes, those slip past as the ball slides smoothly into the net, rippling it with grace and majesty. Other times, this time, they are nothing but frustrating – white noise with no picture.

“That’s soccer,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “Hopefully, next time, one of them goes in. That’s a little bit of a tough one. It happens.”

Bradshaw’s 4 goals in rain

and muck power Stars

to 6-0 victory over Rivet

In the worst of conditions, Bedford North Lawrence’s Zach Bradshaw had the best of games.

Bradshaw scored four goals and Seth Sherfick added two as the Stars rained down on Vincennes Rivet 6-0 on Saturday morning. BNL (2-1) swam through a first-half downpour and slid through a sloppy field in the second half for its second straight win.

“We actually came to play, and it was by far our best game,” BNL coach Logan Jackson said. “We worked the ball well, and that’s why Zach was successful. He found the holes and was able to drive it home.”

Sherfick got the Stars started with an early goal off a pass from Bradshaw, who then struck for his first goal at the 10-minute mark. Bradshaw added his second at 25 minutes, and Sherfick scored just 42 seconds later as the Stars stormed (waiting out a lightning delay after the second Sherfick goal) to a 4-0 lead.

Bloomington South smothers

BNL 9-0 in late season opener

By Justin Sokeland

TheHHCSports.com

After three postponements because of recent stormy weather and sloppy field conditions, Bedford North Lawrence made a belated season opener on Monday night, and the goals rained down.

Bloomington South, a semistate qualifier last season, dominated the ball and the scoring opportunities, punishing the Stars 9-0. Edward Jarrold recorded a hat trick as South improved to 2-0.

BNL surrendered three first-half goals in a six-minute span, and the Panthers made the Stars chase and surrender in the second.

Communication critical for BNL

as Stars look for improvements

By Justin Sokeland

Bedford North Lawrence is prepared to make some noise – in more ways than one – in Logan Jackson’s second season as head coach.

The Stars plan to improve on the 6-8-5 record, which included an appearance in the Class 2-A sectional final, from a year ago. Results are usually based on actions, not just talking, but more talking could lead to better results.

BNL roster

BNL schedule

BNL is stressing on-field communication as it prepares for the 2016 campaign. The louder, the better.

“People are expecting the captains to bring out the communication, to make the game fluid,” senior midfielder Cameron Anderson said. “It’s extremely important. We’ve already done what we need to do to get off to a good start. Our mentality has been way up.”
