Bedford North Lawrence’s postseason run ended without team or personal glory during Saturday’s regional races.

The Stars finished 10th in the field during the girls race, and couldn’t land any individuals on the qualifying list for next week’s semistate at Brown County. The BNL boys, with four runners competing as individuals, also failed to advance to the third round of the state tournament series.

In the girls meet, BNL scored 246 points. No.7 Bloomington North won the team title with 33 points while No.21 Bloomington South was second with 49. The top five teams among the 10 in the meet, plus the top 15 individuals who were not members of advancing teams, qualified for the semistate.

The Stars, who pointed their training toward last week’s sectional race, couldn’t come back with much energy against higher-level competition.

BNL boys send four

Bedford North Lawrence earned one of the five team spots in the IHSAA regional during Saturday morning’s sectional race on the BNL course.

The Stars totaled 152 points to finish fifth in the 10-team field. The top five teams, plus the top 10 individuals who are not members of qualifying teams, advanced to the second round of the state tournament series.

Bloomington North defended its team title with 23 points while Bloomington South was second with 35. Those two teams dominated the race, claiming the top 14 spots between them. North’s Grace Williams was the individual winner in the 5K event in 18:41.9.

Danielle Kittaka paced the Stars, finishing 22nd overall in 21:51.3. BNL’s Payton Flynn was 24th (22:05.7) and Zoe Zollman was 30th (22:37.7).

CROSS COUNTRY: JC boys, FC girls win HHC titles

Jennings County won its first Hoosier Hills Conference boys cross country championship since 1975, roaring past New Albany and the rest of the field on Saturday morning at Bedford North Lawrence.

The Panthers won the crown with 39 points, followed by the Bulldogs (76) and Floyd Central (93). BNL finished seventh with 187.

Columbus East’s Paul Bean, for the second consecutive year, was the boys winner in 16:24.1, but the Panthers claimed the next three spots as Alex Hendrix (16:33.3), Franklin Sanders (16:51.8) and Carter Leak (17:00.6) propelled their team to its second overall title.

Trey Pemberton finished 21st in 17:49.9 for the Stars.

Bedford North Lawrence finished 10th in both the boys and girls 5K races during the annual Ted Fox Invitational on the BNL course on Saturday morning.

The Stars scored 302 points in the 20-team boys field. Terre Haute South won the meet with 34, followed by Christian Academy (75), Columbus East (117), Jeffersonville (128) and Floyd Central (142).

Christian Academy’s Skylar Stidham won the individual race in 15:47.15, while teammate Caleb Futter was second in 15:52.62.

BNL’s top finisher was Isaak Gilbert, who was 32nd in 18:03.83, while Chance Pemberton was 46th in 18:35.56.

MONTGOMERY – Bedford North Lawrence finished 7th in the 12-team field during the Barr-Reeve Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

The Stars totaled 178 points. Barr-Reeve won the team title with 42, followed by Jasper (55) and South Knox (115).

Danielle Kittaka paced the Stars, crossing the line in 16th place in 22:24.7. Zoe Zollman was 33rd in 23:45.1, while Payton Flynn was 39th in 24:13.9. Barr-Reeve’s Natalie Graber was the individual champion in 19:31.0.

BNL will host the Ted Fox Invitational on Saturday.

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY: BNL finishes 4th at Corydon

CORYDON – Bedford North Lawrence finished fourth in the Corydon Invitational on Tuesday afternoon.

The Stars totaled 83 points. Forest Park won the team title with 37, Corydon totaled 48, and Southridge finished with 64.

Danielle Kittaka was the top finisher for the Stars as she crossed in 7th place while Zoe Zollman was 9th and Payton Flynn was 13th. Southridge’s Lauren Meyer was the individual winner in 21:43.

In the boys meet, Corydon won the team title with 34 points (edging Forest Park on the fifth-man tiebreaker) and Corydon’s Blaze Abner was the overall winner in 18:02.

BNL will compete in the Barr-Reeve Invitational on Sept. 20.

NASHVILLE – Bedford North Lawrence’s girls cross country team finished 12th in Class 2A while the boys settled for 17th during the annual Eagle Classic at Brown County on Saturday morning.

In the girls meet, the Stars scored 265 points in the 15-team field. New Albany won the team title with 74 points.

BNL totaled 444 points in the 18-team 2-A field in the boys race. Homestead claimed the crown with 84 points.

Danielle Kittaka was the top finisher for the BNL girls, crossing the line on the fast course (which will host the IHSAA semistate) in 23:43.50. Payton Flynn (46th in 24:32.06) and Zoe Zollman (47th in 24:33.81) finished together.

RAMSEY – Bedford North Lawrence finished 13th in the 20-team North Harrison Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

The Stars totaled 327 points. North Oldham (Ky.) won the meet with 50.

Danielle Kittaka paced BNL, finishing 36th overall in 22:39.3 while Zoe Zollman was 40th in 22:53.9. Payton Flynn (62nd in 24:01.9), Bethany Murray (93rd in 25:30.9) and Molly Mitchell (96th in 25:42.6) completed the scoring for the Stars.

SALEM – Bedford North Lawrence finished fourth in the 12-team Salem Invitational on Saturday morning.

The Stars totaled 116 points. Forest Park won the meet with 27, followed by Silver Creek (101) and Jeffersonville (113).

BNL’s Danielle Kittaka was 9th overall in 24:10 while Zoe Zollman was 15th in 24:54. Payton Flynn set another personal best while crossing the line 23rd in 25:44.

“We narrowed our gap between our first and fifth runners by 45 seconds,” BNL coach Jill Vance said. “As the highlight from the coach’s perspective, it was a very good strategic race. We did an excellent job controlling the pace on the first mile, so they had plenty of energy for a strong second and third miles.
