Stars counting on
to set the tone in 2013

Last season did not end the customary way for the Bedford North Lawrence girls cross country team. The state tournament run was shorter than usual, ending in the regional. For a program with seven appearances in the state finals, the early exit was harder to take than a steep hill.
With the start of a new season, following a summer of intense training, the Stars are looking ahead and racing away from the injury bug that bit them so many times in 2012.
BNL coach Bill Deckard is excited for the season to get started as soon as possible.
“We had a rough season with a lot of injuries and a lot of new people, so it was a rebuilding year,” he said. “But we did get quite a few of our people back and we are much more healthy than last year – and much deeper.”
While last season was about youth multiple doctor visits, BNL returns experienced upperclassmen with seniors Danielle Page, Bret Roberts, Alli Guthrie, Chloe Evans, and Lauren Mitchell. Deckard is counting on them to provide the necessary leadership, and mileage, to make a deeper run in the tournament.
