With the outcome already decided (because a six-goal lead is pretty safe), with her great performance already solidified, Bedford North Lawrence senior captain Kiana Brown crashed into the net with a blood lust for more.

Four wasn’t enough. Brown County’s shot-riddled goalie had just deflected away one of BNL’s 32 shots, and here came Brown, down in the grass, sliding feet first near the post as the ball bounced harmlessly past. She slammed the ground in disgust, for the effort that went unrewarded.

The rest of the time, she received her just recompense, scoring four times for the second straight match as the Stars (7-3-1) overwhelmed the Eagles 9-0 and stretched their modest winning streak to three consecutive games.

Kat Emery added two goals as BNL offense continued to explode. BNL has scored 20 times during its run, and it not for two shots off the post and some quality saves by the beleaguered BC keepers, that total would have been higher.

Bedford North Lawrence’s Lexi Russell will not say very much. She’s that quiet kid, the one in the background, the one overlooked, the one who will surprise everyone with an explosion of noise.

Her soccer spoke for her on Thursday evening, and the message was clear. Russell is a scorer, and she needs to be taken seriously.

Russell, a beacon of energy on a team that lost its way in its belated home opener, recorded her first career hat trick as the Stars blanked Jennings County 4-0 to post their first win over a Hoosier Hills Conference foe this season.

BNL (5-3-1, 1-3) lacked a spark, playing a step slow from its usual quick pace. But Russell, who just has a nose for the net, provided the offensive firepower.

“How about Lexi tonight,” BNL coach Kelsey Pace said. “She’s a gamer. She’s just in the zone, somebody I can always rely on to bring that intensity.”

“We are excited to be coming home with the Cup again,” BNL coach Kelsey Pace said. “The girls played hard. I know they had to be tired by the third game in 24 hours.”

Seymour struck first in the morning game as Bailey Lykins found the net in the 35th minute of the first half. The Stars, who missed a penalty kick midway through the second half, finally broke through as Kiana Brown scored off Kat Emery’s free kick in the 69th minute.

The Stars (1-2-1) scored twice in a four-minute flurry midway through the second half, but the Cougars (0-3-1) produced the equalizer.

“Obviously you’re never satisfied with a tie,” BNL coach Kelsey Pace said. “But I am proud of the girls and the way they played, especially in the second half.”

After North struck first in the 27th minute of the first half, BNL clawed in front quickly in the second half. Karlie Cline (via an Emery assist) booted home the first goal (a 25-yarder that sailed over the goalie’s head) in the 56th minute, and Kat Emery (off an assist from Kiana Brown) followed with the go-ahead goal from the top of the box.

GALENA – Floyd Central made the most of its opportunities as the Highlanders conquered Bedford North Lawrence 6-0 on Tuesday night.

The Highlanders took control with a quick strike (Emma Farnsley scored in the fifth minute) and added two goals just before intermission. They pulled away in the second as BNL slipped to 1-1 (0-1 in the Hoosier Hills Conference).

“Floyd is tough,” BNL coach Kelsey Pace said. “They’re an outstanding team and deserved the win.
“If I said I wasn’t disappointed, I’d be lying. I’m not the only one. We got outplayed a little and our inexperience showed in some places. We expected that somewhat, and I told the girls these are mistakes we can learn from.”
