SALEM – Bedford North Lawrence finished fourth in the 12-team Salem Invitational on Saturday morning.
The Stars totaled 116 points. Forest Park won the meet with 27, followed by Silver Creek (101) and Jeffersonville (113).
BNL’s Danielle Kittaka was 9th overall in 24:10 while Zoe Zollman was 15th in 24:54. Payton Flynn set another personal best while crossing the line 23rd in 25:44.
“We narrowed our gap between our first and fifth runners by 45 seconds,” BNL coach Jill Vance said. “As the highlight from the coach’s perspective, it was a very good strategic race. We did an excellent job controlling the pace on the first mile, so they had plenty of energy for a strong second and third miles.
“Getting the pace for that first mile under control was our goal, and we achieved that. Now we can focus on dropping overall places and continue to narrow our gap.”
Forest Park’s Josie Berg was the overall winner in 21:51, and she was nearly a minute faster than her closest pursuer (Crothersville’s Breanna Barger in 22:42).
BNL will compete in the North Harrison Invitational on Thursday.
