BNL rolls to 6-0 victory
over Edgewood, will
face South in 2-A final
ELLETTSVILLE – Kat Emery scored two goals as Bedford North Lawrence stopped Edgewood 6-0 in the Class 2-A sectional semifinal at Edgewood on Tuesday night.
The Stars (11-3-3) advanced to face Bloomington South, a 4-0 winner over defending sectional champion Bloomington North in the first semifinal, in the championship on Thursday at 6 p.m. BNL has never won a sectional title.
BNL, which ended the regular season with a 3-1 win over the Mustangs, had trouble finding any cracks in the net work of Edgewood goalie Taylor Thomas. The Stars finally broke through, after two of their first 10 shots hit the crossbar, with Emery’s first goal in the 26th minute.
Kiana Brown, who continued her hot streak with her 23rd goal in the last 8 matches, gave BNL a 2-0 halftime lead with a shot that deflected off a defender and into the net in the 31st minute.
The Stars, who had a 16-1 advantage in shots in the first half, started finding the target with regularity in the second. Margee Williams buried a shot to the back post in the 45th minute and Jennifer Ramirez struck again just two minutes later to give BNL command.
Lexi Russell added a goal in the 66th minute, and Emery capped the scoring with a pinpoint shot in the 75th minute.
Sophie Keller had two goals during South’s victory over North. Julia Wood and Bailey Silvers also added goals for the Panthers, who will be chasing their 12th sectional championship.
The sectional champion will advance to the regional at Jasper, facing the champion from the sectional at Castle in the first semifinal on Oct. 12.
