TELL CITY – Bedford North Lawrence finished second in the season-opening Tell City Relays on Saturday afternoon.
Mt Vernon dominated the meet, which was comprised completely of relay events, while winning nine of the 10 races. The Stars settled for second in six events.
“We had a great meet,” BNL coach Terry Tlustek said. “The format was fun, and the girls enjoyed it. They want to go back next year.
“The best thing for the girls was beating Jasper. They have never in my history in the program, as assistant or head coach, ever had a situation where our girls have beat Jasper in any setting. So the girls were on cloud nine. That is some momentum we hope to maintain.”
BNL finished second in the 250-yard freestyle relay as Kaiti Siedl, Mallory Petri, Zoe Zollman and Ashley Edwards combined to clock in at 2:45.91. The Stars were also runner-up in the 400 medley with Sidney Carlile, Hayley Hatfield, Hanna Hatfield and Shaylee Summers teaming up to finish in 4:47.58.
The Stars were also second in the 150 fly relay (1:35.91), the 200 stroke-free relay (2:10.95), the 150 back relay (1:38.49) and the 150 breaststroke relay (1:58.79).
