No.19 Jeffersonville shook off Bedford North Lawrence’s early surge to record a 5-0 victory in the opening round of the Hoosier Hills Conference Tournament on Monday afternoon.
The Stars (12-5) got off to fast starts on three courts, but the Red Devils had too much firepower. They advanced to meet Columbus East in the semifinal round at East on Wednesday.
“We started off well, everybody was pumped and adrenaline was running strong,” BNL coach Donnie Thomas said. “We played them well. We just couldn’t keep it up. They have a good program. They’re really steady, really strong.”
Bradley Cross rolled past Ian Dillman 6-1, 6-0 at No.1 singles, Blake Winchell topped Brandt Callahan 6-2, 6-4 at No.2, and Keith Asplund stopped Logan Bland-Chastain 6-2, 6-1 at No.3.
In doubles, Jerid Inman and Trey Bottorff clipped Alex East and Corbin Bushey 6-3, 6-0, while Colby Kayrouz and Mathew Monroe defeated Isaac Titche and Kishan Patel 6-3, 6-1 at No.2
BNL will visit Jennings County in the consolation round on Wednesday. The final round match will be played at BNL on Friday.
