LOOGOOTEE – Bedford North Lawrence took advantage of its height advantage at the net to subdue Loogootee in four sets, ruining Loogootee’s Senior Night festivities on Thursday night.

The Stars, with Jenna Dufresne and Hannah Dotts providing the power, hammered out a 25-19, 17-25, 25-18, 26-24 victory over the Class A No.9 Lions while improving to 17-9.

“We knew they would be fired up to play us,” BNL coach Scott Saunders said. “They play such good defense. They don’t have much size at the net, but they’re quick in the backcourt and they make you put the ball away.”

Dufrense did a lot of that, cranking down 21 kills while adding 14 digs. Dotts totaled 12 kills and 8 digs, Maddy Cosner added 39 assists and 20 digs, and Tristin Day had 7 blocks and 10 digs.

“If you make errors, they make you pay for it,” Saunders said. “We did some nice things. To go down there and get a win against a quality team was nice for our kids.”

BNL will compete in the Castle Invitational on Saturday, facing Mt. Vernon, Castle and Jennings County. Action will begin at 11 a.m.
