BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence’s seven wrestlers all suffered first-round exits during the IHSAA regional at Bloomington South on Saturday morning.
The top four in each weight class advance to the semistate, which means a first-round victory is mandatory in the field of eight. But the Stars came up short as their season came to a close.
At 106 pounds, BNL’s Braden Yarberry (15-17 and a late addition to the field) was trapped by Bloomington South’s Paul Pinkham in 3:27. Northview’s Austin Cook overpowered Jacob Ray (16-13), winning 15-0 by technical fall at 3:48 at 120.
Edgewood’s Carson Deckard pinned BNL freshman Jaren Abel (16-13) in 1:28 at 126, and Edgewood’s Denver Aydelott pinned Caleb Higgins in 4:32 at 152, and Egdwood’s Ty Robinson felled Neil Amstutz (11-150 in 28 seconds at 195.
Bloomington North senior Dalton Hunter, the defending regional champion who is ranked No.13 in the state, decked Dakota Hutchens (7-13) in 38 seconds at 182.
West Vigo senior Dakota Short (the defending regional champion) pinned Jon Godsey (15-12) in 3:52 at 220.
BNL scored only three points (all by escapes) in the seven matches.
