WRESTLING: Seven Stars ousted in regional openers

BLOOMINGTON – Bedford North Lawrence’s seven wrestlers all suffered first-round exits during the IHSAA regional at Bloomington South on Saturday morning.

The top four in each weight class advance to the semistate, which means a first-round victory is mandatory in the field of eight. But the Stars came up short as their season came to a close.

Edgewood’s Carson Deckard pinned BNL freshman Jaren Abel (16-13) in 1:28 at 126, and Edgewood’s Denver Aydelott pinned Caleb Higgins in 4:32 at 152, and Egdwood’s Ty Robinson felled Neil Amstutz (11-150 in 28 seconds at 195.

Bloomington North senior Dalton Hunter, the defending regional champion who is ranked No.13 in the state, decked Dakota Hutchens (7-13) in 38 seconds at 182.

West Vigo senior Dakota Short (the defending regional champion) pinned Jon Godsey (15-12) in 3:52 at 220.
